Dr. Joyner has extensive training in advanced cardiac imaging, including Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Cardiac Computed Tomography, Nuclear Cardiology, and Transesophageal Echocardiography. She has presented research at national scientific meetings and published in peer-reviewed medical journals. During and prior to Cardiology training, she has received numerous awards including the prestigious Jefferson Scholarship to attend the University of Virginia. During residency, she was selected by her peers to receive the Arthur Klein Award as the physician that “best demonstrates the healing values of carefully listening to patients, and explaining the causes, course and outcome of their diseases.” Dr. Joyner was awarded through the American Heart Association the outstanding Women in Cardiology Award for Excellence. She received the Young Investigator Award through the VCU Institute for Women’s Health National Center of Excellence for work that “demonstrates great promise in advancing women’s health research.” She has been actively involved in medical students and residents training and efforts to improve quality health care.

Dr. Joyner grew up in Virginia Beach with strong ties to this community.
